ANSWER:
Here is the key with our cards – they are apples and oranges compared to other cards. All cards will work for the patient/client/customer at the pharmacy. I had one pharmacist actually tell me “wow, finally a clean card, we hate those discount cards, we will take these and thanks for driving your customers to us.”
Where we are different is this:
We don’t and won’t participate in Mail Order. Other cards compete with the pharmacies by soliciting the members for mail order and cause the pharmacy to lose their customer. The reps don’t get repeated usage from the cards as a result, and only receive commissions from those not mail ordering – huge loss to the rep in the long run. The key is turning an average of 1 transaction to 10 transactions throughout the year. $1 = $10 annually; some a lot higher than this obviously.
We don’t include exorbitant fees outside of normal industry standard that the pharmacy would have to pay – it costs them no different to accept this card and keep it loaded on their customer’s insurance profile than it would any Insurance card.
As a result, our cards can be handed out in pharmacies and their parking lots unlike the competitors’ cards who would contractually lose their contract with the pharmacy and their reps lose all their commissions if caught.
You will see at least double the utilization rate on our cards as you would a competitor for the above reasons, plus the fact that our formulary pricing is structured to focus deep discounts on those drugs most need help with the most - Pain Management, Chemotherapeutic, Cosmetic, ED, Benzodiazapines (Xanax, Prozac, etc.); and all drugs not covered by insurance. We are not attempting to compete with Wal-Mart $4.00 drugs that may be taken once in a five year period such as an antibiotic for example. We discount heavy on them of course, but your income long term comes from the drugs prescribed on a monthly basis for the patient’s life.
80% of drugs are filled at a chain (CVS, WALGREENS, WALMART, RITE AID, GROCERY STORES). Payment (commissions) are near guaranteed the following month when filled at a chain. Competitors’ cards drive the member to the Independent Pharmacies for a low price – most don’t go, and pay a higher price at the chain with that card. Our cards have the same price at a CVS as they do an independent, and quite frankly many independents don’t pay – hate to say it, but it is reality. Our cards pay the following month, and the competitors 3 to 6 months out.
If this other agency is realizing a 2% utilization ratio on their cards now, with us they will see at least 4%. We released these cards as the Health Care provider we are; and released a card that would be in the best interest of our patients and the pharmacies in which they go to. Patients First, then everyone is happy; it simply works!

Not only was her life saved but her budget. Even though the $200 was a lot she still felt relieved that she had some help to keep her alive.
Anyone who is experiencing doubt about the RX cards please tell them to keep giving them out. My attitude has change. It was never about $1.00 and change it's about the life that was saved, helped and encourage that there is something out there to help them when they think all hope is lost.
The biggest lesson is how many opportunities have been lost because I didn't take the time to over look a $1.00 VS. Life. It's really true that when you change your thoughts you can change the world…..thanks for letting me share!!! “
